The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) at Virginia Tech, housed in the Pamplin College of Business, is one of only 35 academic programs accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA). Its internationally recognized Ph.D. program is ranked # 1 in the U.S. and its undergraduate program is ranked #14 in the US. The department offers baccalaureate, masters's, MBA’s and doctoral programs. Its mission is consistent with a comprehensive land-grant university with instruction, research, and service at the Blacksburg, Virginia campus and across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Hospitality and Tourism Management program at Virginia Tech aspires to excellence in academics, research, and public service based on a strong business academic foundation as seen by its academic combination of an AACSB accredited business core and hospitality and tourism management classes. Undergraduate students receive a strong business background as well as hands-on hospitality experience. Master's-level students take both business and hospitality-specific classes and are offered a wide range of research opportunities. The number one ranked Ph.D. program is one of only a few in the world and emphasizes teaching, consulting, and research. Its research faculty continues to be global leaders in the publication of refereed research. In public service, the department endeavors to provide educational, research, and consulting services for practicing hospitality executives, managers, and employees through our extension service. Our research aims are to create new knowledge, address key industry-related problems, and explore long-term industry needs.

We strongly believe in providing a superior business education to students that will make all HTM students highly desirable employment candidates and to impart the knowledge and skills necessary for their future sustained growth and development in the hospitality and tourism field. The HTM Department accomplishes this with a sense of teamwork, enthusiasm, optimism, drive, patience, professional ethics, and a productive communication among stakeholders and a commitment to diversity.
