St. John Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Cultural Festival
A Golden Extravaganza Galore For Festival 2004
|
United States Virgin Islands April 2004 Commissioner of Tourism (USVI) Pamela C. Richards is pleased to announce the 50th Anniversary of the St. John Festival. A jubilant gala of events, beginning May 29 through July 5, will celebrate a half-century of vibrant culture on St. John. This years theme will be A Golden Extravaganza Galore for Festival 2004.

We are proud to celebrate 50 years of rich cultural heritage on St. John, Richards said. We look forward to St. John Festival each year; however, this golden celebration holds special meaning because of its commemoration of things past and present.

Sponsored by the St. John Festival & Cultural Organization, this years celebration will add an abundance of activity to the island during the monthlong festival. The islands characteristically serene persona will be exchanged for a continuous flow of activity and entertainment each weekend.

Parades, pageants, music concerts and cultural fairs are among the featured highlights of this 50th year celebration. This years Festival Village honoree will be Lucy Smith-Prince, and the Food Fair honoree will be Ianthe Daniel. The Festival Mix on June 26, will be one of the most extravagant events of the festival featuring a trio of musical styles - reggae, R&B and soca. The lineup of musical talent will make it a night to remember. On July 5, 48 former Miss St. John queens will participate in the parade. A separate childrens parade and night parade will be new additions to the festivities.
