The Komen Race for the Cure® Series has become the  largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world. Races will be held in 107 U.S cities and two foreign countries in 2000 with over 1 million participants expected. Proceeds from the Komen Race for the Cure® Series funds important breast cancer research, as well as breast health initiatives on a local level. Seventy-five percent of the proceeds remain in the local community where the Race is held, helping support breast health education, breast cancer  screening and treatment programs for the medically underserved. The programs are funded based upon a special needs assessment survey performed by each Affiliate. A minimum of 25% of Race  proceeds helps fund breast cancer research & project grants awarded  through the Komen Foundation Headquarters. Please visit www.raceforthecure.com

UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY
====================
Every subscriber to the newsletter has an opportunity to watch the beginnings of a new web site develop, it's from a unique aspect of being able to see it grow from the very first page presented. Some background information; the site is BooneNC.com and "named after" the wonderful tourist destination of Boone, North Carolina. Boone is a four season area  that caters to skiers, hikers, fall foliage viewers (adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway) - it's also a college town (home of Appalachian State University) meaning visitation for sports programs, conferences and parent's weekends. Bus tours make the Boone, Blowing Rock & Banner Elk area a regular stop. "Feeder" markets to Boone are Winston-Salem/Greensboro, Charlotte, Raleigh all in NC along with Bristol and Gatlinburg, TN. Other surrounding states of Virginia, Ohio, South Carolina and  Kentucky supply much of the traffic headed into and around the area -- many stopping to fish the abundant trout waters. There's rafting, camping, golfing and antique shopping -- truly a vacationer's paradise. BooneNC.com was actually first obtained in November 1998,  the initial investment being $70.00 and held, or "parked" with a web hosting company until ready for developing. The point for presenting this site to you - the subscribers, is to help you better understand the Sales, Marketing and PR effort that goes into a site that is directed for and at the public (whereas Hospitality 1ST can actually be thought of in a "niche" market sense). BooneNC.com went "live" on July the 11th and has honestly attracted about 45 visitors already, without any type of advertising or search engine placement. How? Well it's a question we'll explore in a future update. Now's the time to see it at www.boonenc.com  and we welcome any of your questions as they pertain to the site and its development over the months to come. By the way - your editor "owns" the web site and if you take the information presented here as "self-serving" that's fine - but the hope is that you'll understand it more for a learning tool and the unique perspective that can be shown.

YOUR NEWSLETTER
==================
www.marketingtips.com  is an access point and resource of a company called "The Internet Marketing Center". There's plenty of information on newsletters (both the hard-copy variety and e-zines similar to the one you're reading now) -- how to market them, your target audience, and what to do with the readership as you acquire it. It's really an A-B-C process that is worth spending some spare time with.

OFF TO COLLEGE
================
School's of  Hospitality & Tourism Management are many -- some not nearly as well known as a Cornell or UNLV. Charleston, SC serves as the home of the "College of Charleston - School of Business & Economics" located at  www.cofc.edu/~baecon/tourism.htm  where you can learn more about their programs offered. John Crotts (Ph.D) oversees the courses.

MORE RECOGNITION
==================
When you've been recognized by your peers, why not share that info with others - especially when it doesn't cost anything? Our "Who's Who?" is for you -- the subscribers of the newsletter -- an effort that allows you to shout a little bit more (60 days). We don't require any lengthy Press Release or dissertation - just a couple of quick paragraphs is fine. hospitality-1st.com/WhoIsWho.html  is your starting point and look for the submittal guidelines link, because we do have some guidelines that help us keep the postings uniform...
