SITE REVIEWS
=============
In the last newsletter issue we promised to include a few web site reviews and that's where we'll begin today. Two related sites are the Oregon Coast Visitor's Association www.oregon-coast.org and Central Oregon Coast Assoc. at www.newportnet.com/coca/ The first site is terribly "bloated" -- using a 28K connection you will find the load time in excess of 2.5 minutes and with a modem of the 56K variety you'll only be able to cut this in half. What's the problem? The photos are too large for an opening page. Number one mistake of any site. Also the site is a bit {drab}, the photos are uninviting and lack detail. The related links on the home page make for easy visitation but using the "https://" is redundant when links are presented in that manner. The site is only 3-4 pages and seems to serve as a billboard for other locales -- nothing wrong with that idea as long as people can find you and will stay while the page loads. Overall - it needs plenty of work. The Central, OR Coast site is a complete opposite. It loads much quicker, is also "brighter" and the layout is very direct. The load times of about 20 secs(28K) and 10 secs(56K) are ok but can be improved too. The {{targets}} for any home page "should" be under 12 secs and 8 secs respectively. Please note; these assessments and opinions are that of the editor and done with an intent to help --- hopefully you'll visit these sites and use them as a learning experience. Remember, we're talking Sales, Marketing & PR - it all adds up when you take each segment of your "identity" into consideration. The web offers 24/7 exposure, so the {advertising} should be first class.================
GUEST EDITOR(S)
================
During May, in fact newsletter issues of May 23rd and May 30th, we are going to let two subscribers write the entire copy for those issues. One "editor" will be from our Small Business HospitalityAssociation (SBHA) at www.hospitality-1st.com/SBHAssoc.html and the other from among 4,355+ subscribers of this newsletter. It is your opportunity at some really good exposure -- you decide the content -- it's {{your}} newsletter. For the chance to participate please see www.hospitality-1st.com/sbha/Guest-Editor.html===================
LONG TIME FAVORITE
===================
It's always nice to "be in the know". One of the best industry resources is the printed "BusinessTravel News". BTN has been a long time favorite here and the editors are to be commended for doing a wonderful job with the layout and content. It is complimented with an equally impressive online offering at www.btnonline.com which makes for some of the most timely information around. Have a look when the opportunity presents itself.====================
