MEETING ALTERNATIVE
=====================
One of the "incentives" used by meeting and conference planners to involve attendees is the use of sporting efforts. Usually golf is an attraction and tennis often ranks right behind it. The problem is that one must transport their golf clubs and tennis racquets, a big concern now that airlines are actually keeping to their word regarding luggage restrictions. Another problem - not everyone can play golf (if you want to laugh, play golf with me) or tennis and feel comfortable about it. Have you tried Bocce? It's an equalizer in terms of talent, from 2-8 can play at any one time (odd numbers on a "team" are no problem), it can be played on a mowed lawn, the real "court" is actually 91'L x 13'W and played on a hard and compacted level dirt surface, a carpet covered floor can work just as well. Point is -- it's fun! Bocce also lends itself well to those attendees that might be handicapped or disabled. There's no excuse for anyone to not participate and thats the goal. Many readers may not even know of this game and/or the rules that make it up for more visit: www.hospitality-1st.com/school/bocce.html and be enlightened. Two last points: it's not expensive & if it rains it's easily moved indoors (just don't play it in the hallways of the host hotel). A fairly large conference room can accommodate at least 3-4 "courts". I've given you the pointers -- now go do your research.==========
OLD NEWS
==========
What's the difference between https://www.nnnnnnnnnn.nnn and those who choose to use www.nnnnnnnnnn.nnn in their e-mails? Netscape users "need" the https:// to be able to "click" on your link from within the e-mail while users of Eudora, and Outlook Express only need the address. To cover all the bases get use to the https:// in all your e-mail writings. For AOL & Compuserve users it's another story all together, because they use a proprietary e-mail program that simply said -- stinks! If you want "real" e-mail that {works} for you and your Sales & Marketing efforts get a true Internet Service Provider (ISP) like Earthlink/Mindspring, BellSouth, or if you need more help finding a dedicated ISP in your area visit this link: www.boardwatch.internet.com/isp/ac/index.html . The usual cry of "well I can't access my e-mail while I'm on the road" is just an excuse. Most of the larger providers have all the areas covered and if you do need to dial an 800 access number they usually are about $.06(cents) a minute to use. If you are serious about your Sales, Marketing & PR efforts make the change. Service for Hospitality 1ST comes from/through Earthlink and if you need a referral, just ask.======================
BY WAY OF SUGGESTION
======================
Subscriber and longtime newsletter reader, Michael Steinberg, who hosts the Business Traveler Info Network sent in this suggestion: If your hotel does not have a business center, consider putting a document with the following information in a conspicuous location of each and every guest room; Nearest Kinko's or other Copy shop, Nearest Staples or similar Office supply store (many of these will have a copy center on site), and include the nearest Circuit City or other Computer supply stores. The hotel management might also consider contacting each of these "local" companies about possible joint marketing programs. www.Business-Trip.com/ is where you'll find more from Michael.=======
