Hello Group,

You've helped push the subscriber base to over 80 participants. The accolades and referrals are much appreciated. A few of you commented on having the issues archived at; https://www.hospitality-1st.com/ and that it's easier than saving e-mail which adds to the hard-drive clutter. I'll do my best to keep the archives up-to-date. Generally the current issue will be archived within a few hours of your receipt of this e-mail.

When's the last time you checked the hotel or restaurants stationery and other imprinted items? Is each of the items current? Have you looked at that fax machine in the corner submitting proposals, sending banquet information and confirming rooming lists and special requests? What about those rack cards and corporate fact sheets? Are they copies, made from copies, made from copies? << Don't laugh - it happens all the time!

Some things you can do:
1). Fax yourself to check the header and also to see what others are getting on their end of the fax. Many company logos print terribly on fax machines (heavy black areas also take much longer thereby increasing the $$cost$$ associated with long-distance transmissions). When I fax from my computer, the "fax-driver" will sometimes shift the formatting in MS-Word, something I have to check to be sure the alignment stays as I had planned it.
2). Check to see that your e-mail (and web-site) info are current. You'd be surprised at the numbers that overlook this simple item. Everything is about image!
3). One pet peeve of mine is obsolete recorded answering messages on phone extensions. You call, are sent to voice mail - the message reminds you that "It is Thursday, I'll be back in the office Friday" and amazingly -- you're calling on Friday afternoon!
4). Give the front-desk clerks NEW masters to make copies from and a gentle reminder about making copies and sending old outdated fax cover sheets. I repeat; "Everything is about image!"

I'll switch gears now, but make sure you check those printed items. The ideas and solutions above are simply too easy to pass up.

How's your own hospitality industry knowledge? I make a regular (daily) visit to Hotel-Online and PriceWaterhouseCoopers lodging information sites. The former is PACKED with all kinds of current and archived information, free for the browsing. Much of the latter site is a culmination of press releases and financials (it's good to know how your parent company is doing financially), along with some fee-based areas that require subscribing. Are you familiar with Guerilla Marketing? There are many sites devoted to helping all of us "Sell - Market and PR" much better and wiser!
