19. Hotel Restaurant Travel Hospitality "Sales - Marketing - PR" Newsletter #19 -- 3/23/99
*****************************************************************************
*****************************************************************************

++PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT (PSA)++
On occasion it's necessary to deviate from the main focus of our efforts and spread some information concerning the health and well being of all of us, especially those of you with and/or expecting children. Please take a moment to check out the "Consumer Product Safety Commission" {https://www.cpsc.gov/} along with a concerned set of parents hosting
"Kids In Danger" {https://www.kidsindanger.org/}. These sites may be overloaded for a time - since they were featured on a TV news magazine last night.

++LANGUAGE BARRIER++
Consider the times you have traveled and/or possibly served guests or clients with a foreign language barrier in place. To help you bridge the gap, try a few words or expressions and sentences at this language translation site {https://www.tranexp.com:2000/InterTran}. You'll never know when you have to run in the back office and fire up the computer to help you talk! It could come in handy...

++ATTACHMENTS & FILES++
As you strengthen your Sales, Marketing & PR efforts, many times you'll get the "urge" to send an attachment with that e-mail. Stifle that urge for a moment! The accepted practice is to first ASK your intended recipient if they mind. Why? Most likely your attachment will "spawn" a virus protection program to come to life (which is good) on your recipient's computer - you are now using up their system resources and this could be a very unwelcome intrusion (which is bad). Also, some e-mail programs will not accept attachments greater than 50K-100K in size, depending on the end user preferences. Please be considerate. This consideration just might - "get you through the door" in the future.

++OH CANADA!++
Curious about Canada? Many readers provide the newsletter and author with some really great resources. That's why your feedback is encouraged and the added participation helps everyone here expand their efforts.You have to decide which of the many "tools" to use. Janice S. of the Ontario Tourism Network {https://www.ontournet.com/} was kind enough to share the following; Canadian Tourism Commission {https://www.ic.gc.ca/}along with another public entity {https://www.canadatourism.com/index_ct.html}.

++POSITIONS AVAILABLE++
On March 30th the newsletter will again feature a second edition, which is the "Positions Available Listings". By next Tuesday the employers and recruiters will reach approximately 1,200 subscribers. Thanks for the consideration you show them and to the additional e-mail. If you're interested in their position(s) remember the "clue" above about attachments -- check with them first!

++INSTANT APPROACH++
When was the last time you visited with a client or guest that was in your restaurant, hotel or one of the other numerous entities covered by this newsletter? How about "comping" that "table of four" with a dessert, maybe singling out that guest sweating profusely in the fitness room and giving them some chilled bottled water. It's still the smallest things that bring the greatest attention! Be creative - even offer an extra ride on that Roller Coaster, maybe a free ticket for an expensive seminar. Try it! You have to make a concentrated effort to stay in first place. All that money spent on "loyalty programs" doesn't mean a thing
if you don't apply yourself.

++$100.00 GIFT CERTIFICATE++
Sign-up for an opportunity to win a $100.00 gift certificate from the Amerigo Italian Restaurants: {https://amerigo.net/main-index.html}

++IN CLOSING++
The "links" in the body of the newsletter are formatted with brackets, first to highlight the link and also to keep the link from "breaking" unexpectedly in the e-mail. With over 18 identifiable browser/e-mail combinations, it's tough to support all of them correctly but an effort is truly made. Lastly, the best time to correspond with the editor is Wednesday through Monday. Tuesday's production of the newsletter consumes 8-10 hours and it is sincerely hard to return the numerous messages generated immediately after every newsletter edition (50+ messages on average). Many past issues contain some of the valuable resources and suggestions you're looking for and the archive is located at {https://www.hospitality-1st.com/}. Browse at your leisure...most issues require 5-7 minutes of your time.

Brief again,
