full weekend of October, the annual Wilmington
Riverfest celebration pays tribute to the Cape Fear River and its profound
influence on Wilmington�s culture. The 38th Annual Riverfest, held on October
7-9, will delight visitors and residents of all ages with three days of
free entertainment and family-friendly events that celebrate the river�s
heritage, culture and natural beauty.
With the Cape Fear River
as its focus, Riverfest�s schedule of events includes live music, an arts
and craft street fair, exhibitions, car shows, kids� amusements, pirate-theme
activities, fireworks and more. The street fair, events and live entertainment
wind along several blocks in Wilmington�s river district.
The 38th annual celebration
will kick off on Friday, October 7 at 6:00 p.m. with a free live concert
overlooking Wilmington�s
Riverfront Park. On Saturday and Sunday, a street fair winds its way
through Wilmington�s historic river district with special exhibits, along
with vendors selling art and handmade crafts and over 30 food vendors serving
festival edibles. This year gold medal BMX bike shows will �wow� audiences
at noon, 2pm and 4pm. Continuous live music, a hallmark of Riverfest, will
feature musical performances in a variety of genres.

A few blocks away, the Kid
Zone stage offers family entertainment with dance and music, as well as
face/hair painting, balloon art, games, amusements, arts/crafts, clowns,
mascots, inflatables, a climbing wall and more. Also for the children,
there is a pirate encampment with pirate-theme festivities, such as pirate
ships, demonstrations, a marketplace, kids� pirate costume contest and
more. The pirate camp will take place on the Chamber of Commerce lawn beside

Saturday-only events include
a Sun Coast Cruisers Classic
Car Show along Market Street (10am-6pm). At 9pm, a dazzling display
of fireworks will launch over the Cape Fear River. On Sunday, the Cape
Fear AAAC Antique Car Show will
be showcased along Market Street (10am-3pm). Affordable event parking is
available in public parking decks located at 2nd & Princess streets,
at Front & Market streets and at 2nd & Chestnut streets.
Annual events like Riverfest
afford visitors a great opportunity to experience our region�s rich history.
A portion of the Riverfest proceeds help support the Cape Fear Community
College Marine Technology Program�s studies and environmental efforts.
