|
Farmington, NY September 2016 / Newsmaker Alert / Fox Rules won the $50,000 Genesee Valley Breeders Stakes for the third consecutive year at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack (FLGR) on Monday (September 19). He earned the victory over Empire Dreams by a narrow margin that was too close to call without the photo finish.

The M. Anthony Ferraro-trainee completed the one mile and one-sixteenth distance of the event for New York-bred older horses in a final time of 1:45.02. He was guided to the nose triumph by Pedro Rodriguez.

The 7-year-old gelding owned by Langpap Stables continued his success at his home track where he was voted FLGR Horse of the Year in 2014. He has now won 12 of his 15 FLGR starts including four stakes triumphs. The $484,101 earner also had a victory in the $160,800 New York Derby in 2012. Fox Rules scored his 15th career win and paid $13.00, $4.80 and $2.20. Empire Dreams returned $3.70 and $2.20 for second. Crackerjack Jones was third and paid $2.10.

New York-bred 2-year olds will take center stage in the richest race on the 2016 stakes calendar. The New York Breeders Futurity is scheduled to be run on Saturday, October 1. The six furlong dash has an estimated purse of over $200,000.

The Genesee Valley Breeders Association (GVBA) is the oldest thoroughbred breeding organization in the United States. The GVBA awards program is administered by the New York Breeding and Development Fund Corporation, and it continues to provide monies for breeders and stallion awards as well as enhanced purses for registered New York-breds.
