Washington State University School of Hospitality Business Management Pullman, WA
www.cbe.wsu.edu/departments/hra
The School of Hospitality Business Management at Washington State University is the only hospitality program in the Northwest offering a four-year, undergraduate baccalaureate degree from an accredited business college. Celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2002, SCHM is part of WSUs College of Business and Economics in Pullman, Wash. in the southeast corner of the state. The closest comparable program is 1,000 miles away.

WSUs SHBM is consistently ranked in the top 5% of all U.S. hospitality schools (about 170 of them). Its professors are world-class educators and researchers (they are ranked 7th in appearances in research publications, and 5th in most citations of research by other hospitality professors). And, its graduates benefit from many strong partnerships with industry. For example, students average more than three job offers by graduation, and all students participate in internships during college with corporations such as ARAMARK, Marriott, The Old Spaghetti Factory, Hilton, Hyatt, and Starwood. Students enjoy teambuilding and leadership opportunities in an exceptionally fun, active hospitality club, can spend a semester abroad at a partner school in Brig, Switzerland, and can travel to trade shows and industry meetings representing the school.

While WSU SHBM is the 5th oldest hospitality program in the U.S., it offers a cutting-edge, contemporary management education (covering finance, marketing, management, accounting, and information system) emphasizing hospitality. The third most popular major in the college, it has its own dedicated computer lab running the latest industry software, plus a hotel-sized and equipped kitchen where students get hands-on experience in front- and back-of-the-house operations.

Scholarships and financial assistance attract and retain top scholars to the program. Some students also win national awards for their academic achievements as well as their industry involvement. And, many take advantage of unique, exciting opportunities, like a special internship program with Marriott Vacations International during the recent 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.
