University of Massachusetts Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management Amherst, MA
www.umass.edu/hrta
Established in 1938, the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management is a long-standing leader in hospitality education. It is New Englands oldest program and has been nationally ranked in the top 7 for more than twenty years. Recruiters have commented repeatedly that our students clearly understand the hospitality work ethic.

The HTM program is located in the prestigious Isenberg School of Management, which helps support our solid business foundation. Admission standards are tailored for successful careers in hospitality, thus making the program highly desirable.

Industry recruiters compete for our graduates. Each year we sponsor one of the nations largest, student-run career fair. Typically, 70-85 hospitality and tourism firms attend, offering our students placement into supervisory positions, management training programs, or internships. Several leading firms hire more graduates from our program than any other in the U.S.

We offer undergraduate management programs of concentration in lodging, food service, casinos, clubs, convention and meetings, and tourism. A new major in International Hospitality Management is likely to be made available in late 2003. This exciting addition will offer students a year in Switzerland where they will have the opportunity to study in a Swiss hospitality program and gain practical experience in a Swiss hotel or restaurant.

Our B.S. degree program is now fully available through distance learning. Called HRTA Online, students who enter this program complete our same curriculum and earn the same degree yet never have to physically be present on the Amherst campus. We also offer a Master of Science Degree at our campus in Amherst.
