Encinitas, CA January 2003 The bubbly, enthusiastic voice listeners hear singing the praises of travel on the Sunday morning Travel Talk Radio show belongs to Olivenhain resident Sandy Dhuyvetter.

Dhuyvetter is both creator and host of the show that debuted in December 2001 on KFMB (760-AM). The show, which topped its original 7 to 9 a.m. time slot in a recent Arbitron ratings report, combines regional, national and international travel topics, up-to-date travel news and interviews with travel experts.

Dhuyvetter has become such an expert that Channel 4, the NBC affiliate in Los Angeles, tapped her to do a weekly television show from its Burbank studios.

Its great, Dhuyvetter said. I take the train and my laptop and work on the way up and the way back.

What she works on as she rides the rails is her Travel Talk Radio Internet show, which she debuted in August 2001.

It was one of the first Internet radio shows, Dhuyvetter said.

She encourages her radio listeners to log onto traveltalkradio.com while the show is on the air so they can ask questions via e-mail.

If Dhuyvetter had been asked a decade ago if she had her sights set on becoming a radio and television personality, she would have said absolutely not!

Ive always enjoyed working behind the scenes, said Dhuyvetter, who holds a degree in illustration and graphic design from Arizona State University.

She became a pioneer in digital design and computer graphics in the early 1980s, and in 1994 she began working in the Web community.

Ive developed online marketing strategies and e-commerce-enabled Web sites for more than 200 companies and organizations, Dhuyvetter said. Ive built a lot of travel sites.

Her connections with the travel industry, love of travel and communication and Web expertise all converged when Dhuyvetter launched the Travel Talk Radio Internet program, which can be accessed in 150 countries. Her live radio show airs in Las Vegas and Fresno, and she offers travel tips on CNNs local headline news.

Although she admits her goal is to be syndicated throughout the world and to be the CNN of travel, fame is not Dhuyvetters mission.

My programs are created and based on the belief that travel is a catalyst for creating communication, peace and commerce among the countries and communities of the world, Dhuyvetter said.

The Travelers Commitment to Peace is our creed, she said. It reminds travelers to journey with an open mind and gentle heart, to accept diversity with grace and gratitude, to revere and protect the natural environment and to offer a hand in friendship to everyone they meet.

When Dhuyvetter isnt working on Travel Talk Radio, she enjoys playing Celtic-style accordion with any band that will let me sit in.

Although she admits being ambitious, she said, my family is No. 1.

She shares her Olivenhain home with a teen-age son and daughter, her husband, Patrick Peartree, and two dogs. Her children are involved in exchange student programs and are already seasoned travelers.

Theyve learned a lot from travel, Dhuyvetter said.
