TSA Appoints Dana A. Brown as the Assistant Administrator
for Law Enforcement and the Director of the Federal Air Marshal Service
Washington, DC March 2006 Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Assistant Secretary Kip Hawley announced the appointment of Dana A. Brown, of Virginia, to be the Assistant Administrator for Law Enforcement and Director of the Federal Air Marshal Service.

Dana is a strong leader, who has earned the respect and admiration of the law enforcement community and his colleagues in TSA, said Hawley. He understands how to effectively leverage TSA and Federal Air Marshal Service (FAMS) resources in support of our mission. Dana is an open and effective communicator who epitomizes the quiet professional that is the hallmark of the FAMS. I am confident that he will lead the FAMS on a path to continued excellence in service to America.

Brown is a senior executive with more than 30 years experience in law enforcement and security management. He has operational and management experience in complex criminal investigations, executive protection operations, protective intelligence, inspections and audits, crisis/consequence management, and continuity of operations. Brown began his law enforcement career as a police officer in Fairfax County, Virginia, and then joined the U.S. Secret Service (USSS). He served with the USSS for 25 years, and retired as the Assistant Director for the Office of Administration. He joined the Federal Air Marshal Service in 2003, serving most recently as Chief of Staff. Brown is credited with facilitating the transfer and functional realignment of the Federal Air Marshal Service back to the TSA, a move that emanated from Secretary Michael Chertoffs Second Stage Review of the Department of Homeland Security. Browns experience also includes private sector executive consulting in the areas of investigations, risk/threat/vulnerability analyses, security planning, threat mitigation, and security training.

A former enlisted Marine and Vietnam veteran, Brown received several decorations, including the Purple Heart. He earned his bachelors degree from the College of William and Mary.
