Industry Performance Uneven in July

Washington, DC � September 2004 � The Travel Industry Association of America�s (TIA) July 2004 Industry Performance Indicators, the IPI, showed a 6.7 percent increase in domestic air revenue passenger miles, RPMs, from July 2003. International air RPMs climbed 16.1 percent over the same period. Hotel and lodging receipts rose 8.1 percent from twelve months earlier. On the other hand, job growth in the hotel/lodging and air sectors were comparatively flat compared to July 2003. Amtrak RPMs were off 2.4 percent from one year ago. The IPI provide a quick snapshot of recent trends in travel-related industry segments.
