DC � August 2004 � Richard D. Fain, chairman & CEO of Royal Caribbean
Cruises Ltd., has been chosen as the 2004 inductee to the Travel Industry
Hall of Leaders. Fain was selected by a committee of senior travel industry
executives appointed by the Travel Industry Association of America (TIA).
Individuals eligible for induction are those persons �whose efforts have made sustained and distinguished contributions that have had a positive impact on the overall travel and tourism industry.� �The choice of Richard is a testimonial to, and recognition of, the entrepreneurial spirit that drives the U.S. travel and tourism industry,� remarked William S. Norman, president and CEO of the Travel Industry Association of America. �He has developed and nurtured successful enterprises that have generated wealth for our nation and created jobs for thousands of people.� �Richard has made a lasting mark on our industry through his achievements and his outstanding record of community service,� added Norman. �He has created a legacy of excellence that we can all strive for.� A profile of the 2004 Travel Industry Hall of Leaders inductee follows. Fain joined Royal Caribbean in 1979 and served as an outside director on the company�s Board of Directors. He became increasingly involved in the management of the company and was named chairman and CEO of the cruise operator in 1988. Prior to joining Royal Caribbean Fain worked for Gotaas-Larsen Shipping Corporation for 13 years, a London-based owner and operator of cargo ships. Fain is former past chairman and current vice chair of the International Council of Cruise Lines. He is a director of the Assuranceforeningen Gard, a Norway-based insurance underwriting firm. And, he is a member of the World Wildlife Fund National Council, a member of the Council of 100, and the Alliance for Ethical Government. Aside from his many business affiliations, Fain is also very involved in his local community. As evidence of Fain�s dedication, he serves on the University of Miami Board of Trustees, the Board of Trustees of Temple Beth Am and The National Conference of Christians and Jews� Florida Society of Trustees. He is on the Board of Directors for The South Florida Annenberg Challenge, a public/private endeavor dedicated to improving public schools. He also served as chair of the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau for two years in the mid-90s as well as chair of the 1999 International Pow Wow Host Committee in Miami. Fain was the 1999 co-chair of the United Way Campaign of Dade County. Honors include 1999 Statesman of the Year of the Wharton School Club of South Florida, 1998 Humanitarian of the Year by the American Red Cross of Greater Miami and the Keys, Chevalier de la Legion d�Honneur (French Legion of Honor). This year he will receive the Anti-Defamation League of B�nai B�rith Distinguished Community Service Award. He holds a B.S. degree in economics from the University of California at Berkeley and a M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He and his family reside in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Previous inductees into the prestigious Travel Industry Hall of Leaders have included such industry notables as Walt Disney, Bill Marriott, Marilyn Carlson Nelson and The Honorable Ronald Brown. Fain will be inducted into the Travel Industry Hall of Leaders during the Annual Awards Banquet on Thursday, October 28, at TIA�s Marketing Outlook Forum. The Forum will take place October 27�29 at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, AZ. Travel
