Washington,
DC November 2003 According to the Travel Industry Association of Americas
(TIA) Fall 2003 Travelometer forecast,
Americans will take more than 245 million person-trips during September,
October and November 2003, an increase of less than one percent over last
fall. A person-trip is one person on one trip traveling 50 miles or more
from home, one way.
| Fall leisure travel has continued to grow steadily over the years, and this year is no different, with Americans planning on taking a record 194.6 million person-trips in fall 2003. However, this growth has slowed somewhat, posting only a one percent increase over fall 2002, most likely due to the still-weak economy. | Business
travel volume is expected to remain stable, with Americans planning on
taking 38 million business trips this fall, up less than one percent from
fall 2002.
