First �Summer Of Festivals� Family-Oriented Series
At America�s Largest Regional Theme Park
10 Unique Weeks Of Themed Entertainment Will Offer New
Experiences All Summer Long At Six Flags Great Adventure

Jackson, NJ � June 2002 � America�s largest regional theme park will embark on the industry�s most ambitious festival series. Located less than one hour from New York and Philadelphia, Six Flags Great Adventure will unveil �Summer of Festivals� � 10 different, back-to-back festivals each week through August 25, offering authentic ethnic cuisine, folkloric music and dance, themed entertainment, top-name performers and more. All festival entertainment is free with theme park admission. 

�Six Flags is known for thrills, but this season we�re focusing even more on family entertainment,� said Tim Black, general manager of Six Flags Great Adventure, Wild Safari and Hurricane Harbor.

�The �Summer of Festivals� offers something unique and exiting for people of all ages to enjoy each week,� he said. �We�ve invested great time, energy and resources into providing the most authentic festivals possible. We know they�ll be a hit not only with niche interest and ethnic groups, but with all guests and our valued season pass holders.� 

The �Summer Of Festivals� Schedule Is As Follows

  • Caribbean Festival � June 26 to 30
  • Gospel Jamboree � June 29
  • Celebrate America Festival � July 3 to 7
  • Sports Festival � July 10 to 14 
  • Irish & Scottish Festival � July 17 to 21
  • Greek & Mediterranean Festival � July 24 to 28
  • Asian Festival � July 31 to August 4
  • Italian Festival � August 7 to 11
  • Latin Festival � August 14 to 18
  • End of Summer Festival � August 21 to 25
Headlining concerts in the Northern Star Arena include the Ivan Neville Band and Chuck Mangione on June 23, Yolanda Adams and Kurt Carr on June 29, Baha Men on June 30, The Beach Boys on July 4, REO Speedwagon and Styx on July 5, JoDee Messina and Brad Paisley on July 6, Spin Doctors, Gin Blossoms and Sponge on July 7, Trace Adkins and Jamie O�Neal on August 4, and Frankie Valli on August 11.

Current and former NFL and NBA stars, wrestlers, and major league baseball players will appear daily July 10 to 14, such as former WWE wrestling superstar Mick �Mankind� Foley on July 11, New York Giants� first round draft pick Jeremy Shockey on July 13, and baseball legend Pete Rose, former World Heavy Weight Champion Joe Frazier, Dallas Cowboy football legend Tony Dorsett and one of national Basketball Association�s greatest players, Hall of Fame member Walt �Clyde� Frazier on July 14. Additional highlights include the Sports Illustrated Kids �No Limits Road Trip 2002 Tour� August 21 and 22, and an appearance from Nickelodeon�s SpongeBob SquarePants on August 24.

Local and regional artists will perform on the festival stage, ranging from Irish step and Greek belly dancers to Mexican Indian tribal dancers, and bagpipers, fife and drum corps and steel drum bands to Japanese koto and flute bands. The festival area will also be filled with such events and attractions as Venetian mimes, stilt-walkers, pizza tossing and pasta eating contests, grape stomping, limbo contests, celebrity athlete meet-and-greets, sports memorabilia displays, demonstrations by the new Martial Arts Channel� and more.

Food will be a major focus. Regional and local chefs will present the vast array of festival cuisine. The aroma of jambalaya, island rum, Irish stew, souvlaki, garlic chicken, stuffed eggplant, carbonada criolla, Maryland-style crab cakes, bangers and mash, coconut water, sangria and much more will fill the air. Chefs will freshly prepare the food and drinks and guests will be able to watch how the specialties are created.

�Whether people are watching the outrageous �Gumbo Man� play blues music and make jambalaya at the same time, strolling around the life-size replica of the Fountain of Trevi, or savoring delicious food from around the world, the festivals offer an unlimited amount of entertainment to our guests, and that�s just one section of the park,� Black added.
