New
York, NY September 2005 A new brand of viral videos called Hastings
On Location will debut online September 1, 2005. Conceived by Scripted
Improv Media, the new videos feature travel host Erik Hastings spontaneously
interacting with destination visitors and residents. Viral videos are brief
(about three minutes), relevant, and above all, entertaining. A Send to
Friend button in the viewer window makes it easy for viewers to tell friends
and family, quickly spreading to viewing audiences beyond the host website.
To
view an example, go to www.ScriptedImprov.com
and click on the Destination Videos tab.
According
to spokesperson Gary Hendrickson, the company will film 20 destinations
in the next 12 months. Detroit was chosen as the first destination due
to the peak in visitor curiosity leading up to Super Bowl XL which will
be hosted at Detroits Ford Field in February 2006. The Detroit Metro CVB
provided guidance on video titles and editorial content that would be most
relevant to potential visitors and support the citys branding objectives.
Scripted Improv Media did the rest.
Upon
viewing the finished videos for the first time, CVB communications director
Renee Monforton commented, I was completely and pleasantly surprised.
I was laughing in my office. I didnt know the videos would be that good.
In addition to presenting a destination in a visually appealing way, the
videos can provide the CVB with a new source of revenue from sponsors who
are permitted to have a text link in the video viewer window. Viewing behavior
and click-throughs provide measurable results for the CVB to evaluate campaign
effectiveness.
Research
shows that consumers navigating the web for information prefer to see pictures,
rather than read text. Scripted Improvs new destination videos capitalize
on this trend and satisfy consumer hunger for visual content. Currently,
42.3 million U.S. households have broadband access to the Internet. This
represents 36.2% of total households and is expected to reach 56.3% by
2008, according to an eMarketer report published in February 2005.
