The Steamboat MountainWatch network covers a three square mile area made up of 56 location zones placed across the resort including the base area, on all lifts, ski patrol locations, ski school areas, Kids� Vacation Center and all mountain restaurants. �The SafeTzone system is the premier technology of its kind in the country and we are proud to be making it available to our guests through the Steamboat MountainWatch Network,� said Jim Schneider, vice president-skier services. �For anyone that turned right instead of left, got off to a late start, lingered on a powder day for friends or finished a lesson, Steamboat MountainWatch, in addition to its other features, now allows guests to better locate their group and join them to enjoy the slopes together.� The Steamboat MountainWatch system utilizes a watch-like, waterproof RF Locator device that communicates a person�s location to RF readers. As individuals move through the resort, the locater communicates, via radio signal, the location and unique group information to the nearest antenna. The antenna then communicates via wireless network with the central computers to update the location of each member of that unique group. The central computer instantly relays the new data to the LocationStations or Kiosk. Kiosks will be located at 6 locations throughout the resort including Thunderhead, Rendezvous Saddle, Four Points Hut, Kid�s Vacation Center, Gondola Square and Ticket offices. For opening day, the resort�s Ski School and the Kids� Vacation Center will be utilizing the Steamboat MountainWatch system, and will then be available to the skiing/riding public shortly after the initial launch. When a Steamboat MountainWatch user approaches the touch screen kiosks and scans their Locator, the passive RF tag automatically identifies them, linking them to information on the whereabouts of their group members.
