April 2001 � As part of its 30th year birthday celebration Payless
Car Rental gave the
keys to a brand new Ford Mustang Coupe to the winner of the travel agent
contest that was held from November 1, 2000 through January 31, 2001. Each
qualifying Payless Car Rental reservation booked by a travel agent during
that time period had a chance to win the 2001 Ford Mustang Coupe.
Over 50,000 eligible entries were received. Jane Cervenka from Good Bye Travel in Lebanon, New Hampshire, won the global contest by making a reservation for a one-week car rental at the Payless location in Orlando, Florida. The lucky winner and her husband were flown to St. Petersburg, Florida, on April 18, 2001, to claim the Performance Red Mustang in person and to attend a celebration luncheon in her honor. In addition, she and her husband, Jack, stayed at a local hotel for two nights as a guest of Payless and received $200 to help cover the gas money for the drive home. Bob Smith, local Payless franchise owner, presented the keys to the car to Cervenka. James Olearchik, journalist for Travel Agent magazine headquartered in New York City, was present to cover the story, and members of the Payless corporate staff also took part in the festivities. Payless is a privately held corporation with worldwide locations headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida. Payless was named the number one car rental company in Success magazine's "Franchise Gold 200" survey, and was ranked 19th overall. Recently, Payless was also ranked 100th in Entrepreneur magazine's "Franchise 500" ranking for 2001.
