Than 5,000 Delegates Will Arrive to Los Angeles to Attend the American
Planning Association�s National Planning Conference � April 14-17

Angeles, CA � April 2012 / Hospitality 1ST / The American Planning Association
(APA) will host its 2012 National Planning Conference in Los
Angeles April 14-17. This is the second time the organization has held
its convention in LA, the first convention was held in 1986. More than
5,000 delegates are expected to attend the three-day convention, which
will result in an economic impact of $7.2 million citywide.
APA,
an independent, nonprofit educational organization providing leadership
in the development of vital communities, will utilize a total of 5,498
room nights. Participating hotels include the JW Marriott Los Angeles,
Figueroa Hotel, LUXE City Center Hotel, the Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los
Angeles, Omni Los Angeles and the Sheraton Los Angeles Downtown. In addition
to housing delegates, the JW Marriott Los Angeles at L.A. LIVE will also
host affiliate meetings and session space while the Los Angeles Convention
Center serves as the primary venue for the conference and expo.

Angeles Tourism & Convention Board. �APA advocates for excellence
in community planning, promoting education and citizen empowerment � elements
that the city of Los Angeles ardently values and continues to implement
on a daily basis.�
Union
Station, one of the nation�s last great train depots, will serve as the
backdrop for one of the local events held in conjunction with the conference.
Delegates will enjoy a screening of the film �Chinatown� at the historic
Orpheum Theatre. The critically-acclaimed movie, set in Los Angeles in
1937, was selected by organizers for its urban planning-like theme. Other
highlights for attendees include a Neon Art Bus Cruise, a nighttime hike
at Griffith Park, and an evening at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. APA has
also scheduled a series of off-site mobile workshops and orientation tours
that focus on the city�s cultural, architectural and urban development.
Keynote
speakers, experts on climate change and sustainable housing, include: Dr.
Andrew Weaver, author of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change;
Aisa Kirabo KAcyira, former mayor of Kigali, Rwanda; and Renee Jones-Bos,
ambassador of the Netherlands to the United States.
