Niagara
Falls, Ontario November 2002 Great
Wolf Lodge, the first class, premier destination family resort on the
horizon for Niagara Falls, will contribute significantly to one of the
worlds most recognized tourist destinations.
The Great Lakes Companies, Inc., a Madison, Wis. based diversified real estate developer, purchased a 25-acre plot near the whirlpool earlier last year. Company officials are projecting a spring, 2003 groundbreaking for what will be one of the worlds largest indoor waterpark resorts. The northwoods-themed, four-story, log-sided resort will feature 400 suites making it the largest of the Great Lodge Family Resorts. The hallmark attraction a 50,000 square-foot indoor waterpark located at the center of the resort will maintain a balmy 84-degree temperature year-round. Exclusive to resort guests, the waterpark features eight waterslides, five pools, a lazy river, whirlpools and an interactive treehouse waterfort. Other amenities include two family restaurants, an enormous arcade, a gift shop, confectionery, Aveda Spa, fitness center, meeting space and outdoor recreation area. According to Niagara Falls Tourism, the city currently welcomes 14 million visitors annually, and is projecting 20 million visitors in 2003. Great Wolf Lodge will compliment and contribute to the existing tourism of Niagara Falls, stated Eric Lund, principal and senior vice president of sales and marketing at The Great Lakes Companies. Our indoor waterpark resort will help to extend the tourist season, lengthen visitor stay, and increase tourism spending throughout the area. Great Wolf Lodge in Niagara Falls will be the fifth Great Lodge Family Resort development. The first Great Wolf Lodge opened in 1997 in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., and the second resort, Great Bear Lodge, opened spring 2001 in Sandusky, Ohio. Two more Great Wolf lodge resorts are under construction in Traverse City, Mich., and Kansas City, Kan. Great Lakes plans to break ground early next year in Poconos, PA along with Williamsburg, VA and will continue developing the popular resorts in select markets throughout Canada and the United States.
