United
Blood Services & Forever Resorts Launch Lifesaving Program
Scottsdale,
AZ January 2005 United Blood Services, Arizonas largest non-profit
community blood provider, has launched a lifesaving partnership with Forever
Resorts to reward excellence among blood drive coordinators. The 2005
Red Cape Challenge has been dedicated to those coordinators who backup
their commitment to saving lives by achieving or exceeding their blood
drive goals. Forever Resorts, the sole sponsor of the program, has offered
a quarterly vacation package to be raffled among qualifying blood drive
coordinators. A Mormon Lake Lodge get-away in Northern Arizona has been
established as the prize for the first quarter of 2005. Included in the
package is a two-night cabin rental, as well as a dinner and a breakfast
for two people. All January, February and March coordinators who achieve
100 percent or more of their blood drive goal are eligible to enter the
vacation drawing, valued at more than $200.
Forever
Resorts has been anxious to partner with United Blood Services to reward
blood drive coordinators for saving lives. The opportunity we have as
a company to honor those who want to share in making lives better is something
that is really worthwhile, said Darla Cook, Vice President of Public Relations
for Forever Resorts. Donating blood can make a big difference. One donation
can save up to three people. Its such a simple thing to do and it helps
others, added Cook.
According
to Audrey Miccolis, Executive Director for United Blood Services, more
than half of Arizonas blood supply comes from organization-sponsored blood
drives. Volunteer coordinators from each of those organizations work with
their United Blood Services representative to set the goal, plan the blood
drive and recruit donors to save lives. These dedicated coordinators have
accepted the challenge to lead the blood drive team to success. Our coordinators
are the backbone of the community blood program, said Miccolis. They
are the ones who personally ask nearly 100,000 donors to give blood each
year, Miccolis added. Since one blood donation can be divided into components
to save as many as three patients, they touch up to 300,000 lives each
year.
Each
year, United Blood Services hosts more than 2,500 blood drives statewide
to meet the needs of 53 Arizona hospitals. For more information about sponsoring
