Eastern Michigan University Hotel and Restaurant Management Ypsilanti, MI
www.emich.edu/public/hecr
Eastern Michigan prides its self in that the programs are designed to help student achieve academic success and become successful in their chosen profession. This comprehensive university was founded in 1849 with over 23,000 students and more than 200 undergraduate and graduate programs. The undergraduate and graduate students in the Hotel and Restaurant Management program benefit from a high degree of interaction with faculty and are advised individually according to their educational goals. Learning takes place outside the classroom, too, whether in laboratory classes, in campus food service operations or through service to the community. Faculty has a broad range of experience in the hospitality industry and brings applied practice to management theory.

There are several professional networking opportunities available to students through the Hospitality Management Student Club. Club activities include industry guest speakers, local field trips and trips to the American Hotel Lodging Trade Show in New York City in the fall and the National Restaurant Association Trade Show in Chicago in the spring.

Undergraduates are required to have two 600-hour paid cooperative (co-op) education work experiences, the second of which must be in a supervisory position. Faculty will assist in work experience placements. Graduate students are also encouraged to obtain paid work experience in the hospitality industry prior to graduation. In addition there are several annual scholarships available to Hotel and Restaurant Management students.
