New
York City, NY November 2004 A new Training and Education Advisory Council
has been established to assist the Educational
Institute (EI) in its development of targeted training resources for
the hospitality industry, announced Anthony Farris, CHA, chairman of the
board of directors of the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation
at a board meeting held Saturday, November 13, during the AH&LA Fall
Conference.
The
Advisory Council, which is composed of training and educational development
executives from leading hotel organizations, will be chaired by Martin
Lowery, vice president, educational and professional development, Hilton
Hotels Corporation, and co-chaired by Steve Schuller, vice president, organizational
development and education, Wyndham International. Other members of the
committee are:
-
Christopher
Jackson, vice president, training and organizational development, Cendant
Corporation
-
Jean
Kampa, manager of e-learning, Carlson Hospitality Worldwide
-
Mike
Mallot, director, brands training, Hilton Hotels Corporation
-
Kristen
Richards, coordinator, training, planning, and employee relations, Hyatt
Hotels Corporation
-
Shelly
SantaAnna, director, training and organizational development, InterContinental
Hotels Group
-
Joan
Schmidt, senior director, HR design, Marriott International
This
advisory council was originally convened by AH&LA chairman Dieter Huckestein,
executive vice president and president, hotel operations, owned and managed,
Hilton Hotels Corporation, as an industry focus group whose mission was
to determine industry-wide training and education needs, prioritize issues,
and offer recommendations to the Educational Institute. Based on the success
of the groups early meetings, the decision was made to formalize the group
as the Educational Institutes Training and Education Advisory Council.
Why
have several large companies creating their own versions of the same training
topics? stated Huckestein. If we come together as a single voice and
EI develops the content based on our recommendations, it saves time and
money while providing consistency of training across the industry. AH&LA
members, industry owners and operators, and franchisees can turn to EI
for the most timely training and education topics offered in a variety
of delivery mediums.
EI
president Anthony G. Marshall, JD, CHA, CHE, noted that the new advisory
council will play a vital role as the organization moves forward with its
strategic business goals.
The
Educational Institute is engaged in constructive change as the industry
evolves, said Marshall. We have received excellent feedback and guidance
from our industry leaders and AH&LA members and we have committed to
creating or revising all EI products to better serve the needs of the industry.
We are already moving forward with plans to offer training content in customizable
online modules, as well as other projects recommended by our industry advisors.
The
next meeting of the Educational Institutes Training and Education Advisory
Council will be in January 2005. For additional information, please contact
Brenda Moons, EIs vice president, industry sales and business development,
