Macon,
GA If the 271,500 blossoming cherry trees in Macon, GA were planted in
a single row, ten feet apart, the snowy cloud-like trees would provide
over 465 miles of springtime beauty from Macon to Memphis. And from March
15th through March 24th, festival-lovers will be treated to one of the
most extravagant displays of springtime color and blooms in the nation.
Attracting
over 700,000 participants each year, this ten-day festival will feature
over 500 events, ninety percent of which are free. Musical highlights include
headliner concerts by Smashmouth and a famous country star TBA, daily concerts
in Central City Park; Cherry Palooza, an alternative concert for the college-aged
crowd; and Gospel concerts.
Numerous
childrens events, geared toward creativity, education and entertainment,
will be held daily as well as Arts and Crafts weekends featuring local,
regional and national artisans and craftsmen. Tours, historic homes, museums,
the Sports Hall of Fame, the Music Hall of Fame and plenty of southern
hospitality will keep the town humming. Dance events range from: classical
dances from India, to ballet, ballroom, square, round, jitterbug, shag
and clogging.
Other
fabulous events include a black tie coronation Gala Ball, fifties/sixties
dance, spectacular Hot Air Balloon Festival, International Food Fair, Street
Party with three stages, Picnic and Pops Concert, Fireworks extravaganza
and Grand Finale performance.
