Wilmington,
NC October 2003 Historic Wilmington
and North Carolinas Cape Fear Coast is a premier vacation destination
thats earned a reputation as the bed and breakfast capital of the Carolina
coast. Nearly two dozen Cape Fear Coast bed and breakfast inns range from
quaint to grand with a wide range of prices and amenities. Two unique B&Bs,
the Clarendon Inn and the Murchison House Bed & Breakfast, opened in
early October in the heart of Historic Downtown Wilmington, just steps
away from charming antique and specialty shops, restaurants, historic homes,
landmarks, sightseeing tours and the scenic Riverwalk.
The
Clarendon Inn (c.1950), located at 117 S. 2nd Street, offers the elegance
and charm of a B&B with a bit more privacy. Decorated with traditional
and antique furnishings, the charming inn previously housed a Catholic
school for nearly 50 years. Innkeepers Johnny and Angie Barnes are native
Wilmingtonians who have painstakingly renovated the Clarendon Inn to provide
their guests with the utmost comfort and convenience. They are committed
to hospitality and service. Guests enjoy 8 spacious rooms with queen size
beds and individual climate control. Other amenities include a gourmet
continental breakfast, whirlpool baths, high-speed internet, fax/copy service,
exercise facility, off-street parking on premises, as well as phone, refrigerator,
microwave, TV/VCR, coffeemaker and more. For more information, call (910)
343-1990 or (888) 343-1992.
The
Murchison House Bed & Breakfast (c.1876), located at 305 S. Third Street,
is a dream come true for innkeepers Ron and Sherry Demas who retired
to Historic Wilmington and North Carolinas Cape Fear Coast to open their
inn. For six years the Charlotte residents have lovingly restored the magnificent
David Reid Murchison house, which was designed by Wilmington architect
James Walker during the 1800s. Using old photographs of the house and advice
from professionals, the Demases have transformed the main house into a
showcase bed and breakfast inn. Elegantly furnished and decorated with
period antiques, the inn offers five cozy and spacious guest rooms with
rich color combinations and exquisite art treasures. Amenities include
telephone and internet connections, television and more. First floor parlors,
library, chess and dining rooms provide a place to relax and gather with
friends. Surrounding the inn are beautifully landscaped grounds with fountains,
waterfalls, a courtyard and Koi pond. The Lower Cape Fear Historical Society
offered a sneak preview of the Murchison House during its successful
2003 Designer Showcase. For more information, call (910) 762-6626 or visit
www.murchisonhouse.com.
Both
the Clarendon Inn and the Murchison House Bed & Breakfast welcome visitors
to Historic Wilmington & North Carolinas Cape Fear Coast. With an
ocean, a historic riverfront town, more than 45 attractions, as well as
numerous golf courses, fishing charters, restaurants and retailers, theres
something to suit every taste and whim. For a free Visitors Guide please
