Minister Of Industry Appoints New Members To The Board

Ottawa, CN � September 2001 � The Honourable Brian Tobin, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC), recently announced the appointment of three new members to the Board of Directors of the Canadian Tourism Commission. Mr. Chris Cahill, Mr. Simon Cooper and Mr. Rod Seiling were each appointed for a three-year term. �The new appointees promise to bring new vision and in-depth expertise to the Canadian Tourism Commission's work in promoting Canadian tourism internationally and domestically,� said Minister Tobin.

Since 1998, Chris Cahill has served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, formerly Canadian Pacific Hotels, for which he served as Executive Vice-President and Vice-President of Sales. As well, Mr. Cahill currently serves as Executive Vice-President and Trustee of Legacy Hotels Real Estate Development Trust. He is also a member of the board of directors of Delta Hotels, where he held positions of increasing responsibility over a 15-year period culminating in his appointment as Vice-President, Operations, Eastern Canada. Mr. Cahill is also a former Chair of the CTC's Meetings, Conventions and Incentive Travel Committee.

Simon Cooper was recently appointed President and CEO of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. His career in hotel operations spans three decades and includes positions with Marriott Lodging Canada, Canadian Pacific Hotels & Resorts and Delta Hotels. Mr. Cooper also serves as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the University of Guelph, as a member of the Conference Board of Canada's National Council of Leadership and is an honorary fellow of Ryerson Polytechnic University (1995). He has been actively involved with the CTC as former Chair of the Infrastructure Development Committee and current Chair of the CTC Research Committee.

Rod Seiling has been President of the Greater Toronto Hotel Association since 1994. Previously, he served as Vice President of Executive Consultants, and as Executive Director of Racetracks of Canada. Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Seiling was Chair of Team Canada, a Director for Tourism Ontario, and he also served as Director for the Ontario Tourism Marketing Commission.

The CTC is a Crown corporation that markets Canada as a travel destination. The CTC's Board includes private-sector representatives, both from specific regions of Canada and from national tourism industries, including hotels and airlines. The board also includes high-level public-sector representatives recommended by tourism ministers in the various regions across the country.

Industry led, market driven and research based, the CTC is a federal marketing agency that works in partnership with the tourism industry and federal, provincial and territorial governments to market Canada as a four-season destination.
