The HRMT program, with its focus on premium quality service, has been highly successful since its inception in 1987. Throughout its history, the program has been committed to excellence and staying on the leading-edge of change. In light of this commitment, the College of Human Sciences and its HRMT program have entered into a unique partnership with The West Paces Hotel Group (WPHG), L.L.C. Together they have developed a unique model for hospitality education that sets quality standards for the HRMT program congruent with the top industry standards. Built on a foundation of superior service and science-based operations, WPHG was launched as a private hotel company in 2002 by Horst H. Schulze. Mr. Schulze is co-founder and former President and Chief Operating Officer of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C. Under his dynamic leadership, The Ritz-Carlton was twice awarded the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for premium quality service. The West Paces Hotel Group is renowned for its management approach in the ultra-luxury hotel sector, managing a very busy national and international property portfolio, the group also manages the HRMT programs on-site learning laboratory, The Hotel at Auburn University. WPHG has fully integrated its internationally renowned scientific approach to service excellence into the day-to-day operation of this learning laboratory and the full HRMT program curriculum. In addition to providing classroom instruction, the Hotels Senior Executive team oversees student work in practical laboratory settings. Moreover, students interact regularly with the WPHGs Senior Leadership team in a variety of small group and larger classroom settings, giving them unique first-hand insight as to the companys management philosophy, practices and procedures. As a result, Auburn students learn in a hands-on, customer-focused, problem solving environment that strives for excellence through continuous quality improvement. This partnering also presents students with unique insight as to the scientific research approach adopted by WPHG in its continual pursuit of excellence. Students learn how to review and interpret a full range of company data with a view to informing the WPHGs current operational and strategic decision making processes. Additionally, graduate students are afforded the opportunity of working directly with the Senior Leadership team in the further development of this research approach.
