Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College is recognized as The Culinary Technology program in the State of North Carolina and is continuing to gain increased stature among culinary programs and chefs in the southeast through its Culinary Competition Team�s achievements. Culinary competition awards are many.

  • North Carolina State Junior Hot Food Competition, Gold Medals 1997 -2001, 2003
  • American Culinary Federation Southeast Regional Junior Hot Food Competition, Gold Medals 1997 - 2001, 1st Place 2003
  • Silver Medal at American Culinary Federation National Junior Hot Food Competition, 1997 and 2003, making the A-B Tech team one of the �Top Four� nationally
  • 1st Place, American Culinary Federation Southeast Regional Culinary Knowledge Bowl Competition, 2003
  • Student represented American Culinary Federation at World Junior Chef Challenge, Auckland, New Zealand, 1999
  • Graduate on the National Culinary Olympic Team 1992, 1996
A-B Tech�s Hospitality Education Department offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in three programs: Culinary Technology, Baking and Pastry Arts, and Hotel/Restaurant Management.

At A-B Tech, Culinary Technology students learn through classroom lectures, laboratory experiences, and once-weekly restaurant productions. Students participate in practical education experiences that translate classroom learning to real life. Opportunities include

  • state-of-the-art kitchen and equipment
  • cooperative education positions with industry-respected leaders
  • on-campus restaurant with two dining rooms
  • guest chef demonstrations
