Benchmark Consulting has been retained by the Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance (WWVWA) to conduct a search for an Executive Director. The WWVWA is a marketing, media and trade outreach member organization that is the essential voice of the wine making and wine growing communities of the Walla Walla Valley.

The Position
The Executive Director�s role is crucial to the success of the Alliance�s mission. Ideal candidates will possess marketing and public relations experience and the combined qualities of leadership, diplomacy, and creativity to become the voice of the Walla Walla Valley wine industry and to represent it to the degree of quality for which the region is known. As well, they must be able to effectively provide the same high quality service to members within the organization.

Location
This position is located in Walla Walla, WA.

Reporting Relationships
This position reports directly to the Board members. A full-time marketing director, part-time administrative assistant and part-time accountant will report to Executive Director.

Responsibilities
Communications/Public Relations
Whether written or spoken, communication in a wide variety of forms is a primary role. It will range from daily phone interactions to copy writing to public presentations. The audience is the membership, media, public, trade and Board of Directors.

  • Maintain and develop an effective public relations program
  • Maintain and develop a pro-active wine industry trade and media program
  • Liaison to other community, industry, and regional organizations.
  • In both public and private settings, represent the WWVWA in the utmost professional manner, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
Marketing/Public Relations
Working with WWVWA committees and Marketing Director to develop creative marketing & fundraising strategies. Manage those projects and special events to effectively represent and further develop the image of the region, including but not limited to:
  • Collateral Materials
  • Website
  • Press Kit
  • Special Events
  • Advertising
  • Line of Retail Alliance Products
  • Appellation Map
  • Vintage Walla Walla
  • Back Stage Pass
Diplomacy
Effectively handling requests and inquiries in a professional manner that represents the region accurately and the membership fairly relative to:
  • Membership
  • Industry Organizations
  • General Public
  • Media Requests
  • Community Organizations
Organizational Skills
Both supervisory role and direct participation.
  • Event Planning � annual meetings, tastings, promotional activities, fundraising opportunities
  • Trade & Media Relations � creating and managing familiarization tour itineraries
  • Maintaining the office
  • Membership status and materials
  • Committee work
  • Meetings � including Board of Directors, Committees, and General Membership
Financial
  • Develop and manage budget and individual project budgets
  • Pursue all possible funding sources, including fundraising partnerships and grant writing
  • Oversee all activities related to finance including, but not exclusive to invoicing, bill paying, banking and financial reporting
Administration
  • Responsible for hiring and supervising all employees. Currently, the WWVWA team of employees includes a full-time marketing director, part-time administrative assistant and part-time accountant
  • Prepare annual work program in conjunction with the Board of Directors and implement plan as adopted
  • Record Keeping � membership records, tax information
  • Database � member information, valley data, mailing lists
  • Phone � the wine alliance is a resource for membership, media, trade and tourism organizations
Education and Training Requirements
  • Four year degree in Marketing, Public Relations or related field, or equivalent industry experience
Position Requirements
  • Computer skills required: Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of PageMaker, Photoshop and Publisher helpful
  • General working knowledge of the wine industry, including distribution, sales, marketing, sensory analysis, food and wine pairing, etc.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to think strategically and work collaboratively
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in a variety of situations
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds
  • Willingness to authorize Benchmark Consulting to perform background check per standard procedure
