Established in 1984 to serve
and support Chicago's number one industry, the Manfred Steinfeld Program
is the major four-year hospitality program in Illinois. Named for Manfred
Steinfeld, the program's benefactor and chairman and former CEO of Shelby
Williams Industries, the Roosevelt program seeks to produce leaders and
innovator in hospitality management. With Chicago as our campus, the curriculum
is implemented by an experienced faculty and staff culled from the nation's
hospitality industry. Students include a lively mix of entering freshmen,
transfer students, working professionals, and a representative international
population.

Institute for Tourism Studies
The Manfred Steinfeld School
of Hospitality and Tourism Management is also home to the Institute for
Tourism Studies. The institute was created through a grant from the Illinois
Department of Commerce and Community Affairs and the Illinois Bureau of
Tourism. The mission of the institute is to support the hospitality and
tourism industry through research, leadership education and development,
and a variety of special programs. A special focus of the institute is
development of educationally oriented projects that address the industry's
labor needs and to foster research useful to the industry. The institute

The institute was founded
and made possible as a result of the vision and support of Illinois Governor
George Ryan and Illinois State Representative Terry Parke.
