Lincoln University – Bachelor in Commerce (Hotel & Institutional Management) – Commerce Division
Lincoln, Canterbury, New Zealand
www.lincoln.ac.nz/study/areas/him.htm
Lincoln University was the first University in New Zealand to offer a degree specific to the hospitality industry the BCom (Hotel and Institutional Management). This is one of a number of named, or specialised, Commerce degrees that the University offers. This is a degree in which students take specialised core papers in hospitality management alongside selected commerce specialisations. Specialist faculty in the tourism areas, as well as related faculty in commerce supports the hospitality component of the degree.

In the area of hospitality management, Lincoln University offers a Graduate Diploma in Commerce and a Master of Commerce and Management. The Postgraduate Diploma in Commerce with a Hotel and Institutional management focus builds on the existing undergraduate programmes offered at Lincoln University. Individuals who are making a transition from either a commerce, but non-hospitality background, or a non-commerce and non-hospitality background into the hospitality area often use it.

Lincoln University offers a range of postgraduate study options that incorporate hospitality and tourism management. Depending on the student and the programme selected, postgraduate study can involve only course work, only research, or a combination of course work and research. The University also offers a Master of Applied Science degree that provides a general framework for undertaking hospitality-related studies. The University also offers a specialist Master of Professional Studies (Hospitality and Tourism Management) through distance education. This programme has been designed especially for busy working managers who wish to continue with their education and their career.
