The Department of Tourism,
Conventions, and Event Management offers the first Bachelor of Science
degree in Tourism, Conventions, and Event Management. The mission of the
department is to provide quality education using relevant theories and
applications to prepare students for management positions in the tourism
industry. The undergraduate academic program provides training in lodging,
food and beverage, catering, institutions, special community events, meetings
and conventions, sporting events, attractions, transportation, entertainment,
parks and recreation, and destinations. These program offerings align with
the city's emphasis on promoting itself as a tourism destination.
Additionally the department
awards an Associate of Science degree in Food Service and Lodging Supervision.
This program prepares graduates specifically for employment in food service
and lodging operations.
Both degrees are strengthened
by five industry-specific certificates. Students may specialize in one
of the following areas: beverage management, event management, food production
management, lodging management and cultural heritage tourism.
Four full-time faculty and
twelve associate faculty are responsible for the instruction of all courses.
