Our status as one of the premier institutions in tourism administration began in 1974, when GW became the first university in the world to offer a master's degree in tourism administration. In 1988 the University and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) created the International Institute for Tourism Studies at GW. The Master of Tourism Administration program receives TedQual certification by the UNWTO THEMIS Foundation. For more than two decades The George Washington University has been a leader in tourism management education and research. At GW you will benefit from a program that sets the worldwide standard for graduate and undergraduate studies in tourism and hospitality management.

Located in nation's capital, the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management is instituted in the School of Business. The department offers several graduate and undergraduate academic programs, including the Master of Tourism Administration program (MTA), the Distance Learning Accelerated Master of Tourism Administration program(AMTA), the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with a concentration in Sport, Event and Hospitality Management, BBA/MTA Five-Year Dual Degree program, and MBA with a concentration in Tourism and Hospitality Management.

The Master of Tourism Administration program offers four concentrations: Sustainable Destination Management, Event and Meeting Management, Sport Management and Individualized Studies in International Hotel Management and Ecotourism Management.
